Bicyclist hit, killed trying to cross Southside Connector in Regency area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 34-year-old man died early Friday morning when he tried to cross the Southside Connector at Regency Square Boulevard on a bicycle and was hit by a car, troopers said.

According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, around 12 a.m. Friday, a 29-year-old man was driving south on the Southside Connector and struck the bicyclist, who was crossing from east to west near Regency Square Boulevard North.

A female passenger in the car, who troopers have not yet identified, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. The report said she was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.
