1 dies in double shooting on Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people were shot Thursday afternoon in a neighborhood off Ricker Road, and one of the victims has died, according to homicide detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

It happened just after noon in front of a housing complex on Indian Lakes Court. Police said Bryan Stringer, 29, was being chased when he was shot and killed, but they don't know who was chasing him or why.

Police said Stringer was banging on an apartment door of the second victim. When the door opened, that resident was shot by the same gunman.  The second victim, also a man, was taken to UF Health Jacksonville and is expected to recover.

The name of the second victim was not released.

Police said they have several witnesses, but have made no arrest and don't have a good suspect description. When Stringer's name was released Friday, police only said it was an ongoing investigation and no other information was available.

Neighbors were very upset by the shootings.

"I'm too scared to even walk to the store," said one woman, who didn't want to give her name and said it's not the first gun violence in the area. "Last year I lost a nephew just over there. Unless you've experienced it, when it hits to your household and your family, it's a tough pill to swallow."

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
