Brothers wanted in Jacksonville Beach stabbing

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Jacksonville Beach police are asking for the public's help in finding two brothers wanted in connection with a stabbing last week.

Police said Carlos and Cameron Moralez, 23 and 22 respectively, attacked and stabbed Nicolas Smith about 12:30 a.m. Nov. 24.

Smith, a University of North Florida student, said the stab wound in his lower back was just an inch away from his spine and could have paralyzed him.

"It was pretty deep, but I don't remember anything until I got into the ambulance," Smith said. "It's pretty painful."

He said he had just left a bar and was walking to a friend's house when he got into an argument with two men, one of whom stabbed him three times. Smith said he tried to walk away before the fight broke out.

"I won't really be going around there anymore. It's not really worth it," Smith said.

He said he tried to walk away from the men, but police said the two worked together to take Smith down.

Police said that as Smith was fighting with one of the brothers on Second Street, the other brother ran to the car, grabbed a hunting knife and stabbed Smith several times.

Smith said he was also stabbed twice in the back of his leg.

"I think it's pretty serious," Smith said. "You don't really get a chance to get around and stab people."

Witnesses said the attackers drove away in a blue Buick SUV. Police said they were able to identify the brothers and obtain arrest warrants on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, but the men have not been found.

The last known address of both men was in Clay County, police said.

Both are described as having a thin build and being between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 9 inches tall.

Anyone with any information on their whereabouts is asked to call the Jacksonville Beach Police Department at 904-270-1661 or another local law enforcement agency.
