Interstate 95 closed due to deadly crash (WJXT)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 21-year-old woman from New Smyrna died Sunday morning after being struck by two vehicles on Interstate 95 northbound near State Road 9B, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the FHP incident report, the woman was standing on the left yellow-painted edge line after she was involved in a crash. Her car was disabled and was blocking the left and center lanes.

An SUV traveling in the left lane veered right, then veered left to avoid hitting the disabled car. In that attempt to avoid hitting the car, the 25-year-old driver of the SUV hit the 21-year-old pedestrian.

Around the same time, a pickup truck traveling in the left lane tried to avoid hitting the disabled car. The 84-year-old pickup truck driver also hit the 21-year-old pedestrian, according to the report.

The 21-year-old woman died at the scene, FHP said.

Both vehicles involved in the crash stopped at the scene.

All lanes of I-95 northbound near State Road 9B were closed for hours following the crash. All lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.
