5-year-old's body found in retention pond

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The body of a 5-year-old was found in a retention pond Sunday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police received a call at about 8:30 p.m. about a missing child in the area of Lambing Road on the Westside.

When investigators arrived, they learned adults found the child floating in a pond behind a house. The child was given CPR and taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Investigators have not released the name of the child.

Sgt. Jay Farhat with JSO said no foul play is suspected.

"Right now it appears to be a tragic accident," said Farhat.

Farhat said the 5-year-old was playing with other children outside. When they came back inside the house, the child was not with them and parents called police.
