JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – All lanes of San Jose Boulevard between San Clerc Road and Baymeadows Road were closed Saturday morning because of a water main break.

Both southbound lanes reopened shortly after 8 a.m., but both northbound lanes remained closed.  Drivers are able to travel northbound on San Jose using a travel lane in the middle of the road.

According to Jacksonville Electric Authority spokesperson Gerri Boyce, the lanes will be closed two to four hours as crews repair the damage.

The break happened at the corner of San Jose Boulevard and Villa San Jose Drive, leaving many in the area without water, but JEA crews had it restored by 10 a.m.

JEA crews spent hours locating and fixing the break.  By 8:00 a.m., the break was repaired and crews were filling the hole back up with water slowly being brought up to full pressure.

"It actually happened once everybody was in bed. That was a good thing. We were able to get showers and everything out of the way. That was a good thing," said Tracey Greene.

The Pine Castle Group Home at the corner of where the break happened was holding a yard sale, hoped the fix would be completed in time for people to still get to the sale.

"It means a lot because everything we do here with Pine Castle is for our individuals. The money that we raise for them. We take them on trips and outings, shopping, whatever they want to do," said Greene.

Boyce said the break was in a 6-inch water line that has been isolated. According to JEA, about 25-30 homes reported low or no water pressure.

Throughout the morning, crews worked to fill in the hole.  As of 10 a.m., they were waiting for pavement, so they could fill in the hole.

News4JAX will continue to monitor this closure and bring you updates as they become available.
