'Cajun Navy' headed to Houston to offer Harvey help, report says

The all-volunteer ‘Cajun Navy’ is staging a mass mobilization to Texas after the devastation of Harvey, according to a report.

So what is the ‘Cajun Navy’? They're a group of people who move in with their fleet of private boats to help those stranded as a result of flooding. They’ve done it before in southeast Louisiana, and now, they’re coming a little further west to help out the Bayou City.

WAFB spoke to Jon Bridgers Sr., an organizer in charge of the Cajun Navy 2016 Facebook page. He said they’re planning a “large push” when “things calm down.”

Bridgers said he and others set out with boats towards Houston Sunday, but made it about 40 miles outside the city. The roads, he told WAFB were are impassable. However, he said some have made it and are doing their best to help.

The Southeast Louisiana Storm Spotters have a message for Houston: “Hang on…the Cajun Navy are en route.”
