JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Camp Boggy Creek is kicking off its 20th summer session with the traditional camp send off.
The Camp opened two decades ago as a place for kids with a range of serious medical conditions to come and be regular kids for one week during the summer.

Sunday morning, about 45 kids with serious illnesses departed the Brooks Family YMCA for Camp Boggy Creek.
Camper Matthew Walters said, “It's the best camp ever!”
His mother, Donna Walters said, “He loves it. He looks forward to it every year, they do so much and he has the best time.”
The camp experience is filled with empowering opportunities despite the kids' medical restrictions. For children with cancer, the sendoff gathering signals summer is really here. While at Camp Boggy Creek kids can forget about their illnesses and just be kids.
“It's just helped me in so many ways, spiritually and mentally even through the hard times I would go to Boggy and just forget about everything,” camper Isaac Herndon said
Their days are filled with positive energy and they will participate in a variety of camp activities, like horseback riding, swimming, zip lining and archery.
This summer's camp session at Camp Boggy Creek serves children ages 7-16 who have battled or are battling cancer. The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund sponsors the camp so families are never charged to send their child.
“So this brings them, and we don't have to worry financially about it they can just go and have a good time and not worry about anything in the world, hey let's sign up let's go and have fun,” said Isaac’s mom, Rebecca Herndon.
