JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One of News4Jax's directors was woken up Sunday to find a car into the side of his house on Plantation Club Drive.
Ike Levitan said he never heard a thing, and before anyone could see who did it, the car was gone.
"You (can) see the tire marks going across the lawn," Levitan said.
The most bizarre part is that no one nearby heard a crash either.
"We usually hear cars going up and down the street all the time, so I thought maybe it was something like that, maybe the house settling -- nothing out of the ordinary, not a car into the house," Levitan said. "Then it was like, 'OK, I've got to get this cleaned up and get this house in order so I can live in it.'"
Levitan said he only found out about the wreck when a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officer knocked on his door and told him to come outside. Levitan said the neighbor eventually saw the damage and called police.
Levitan said the car went directly between his home's water intake valve and the electric box. If it had just been a few feet in the other direction it could have hit the window that leads directly into the kitchen.
"It's probably going to be a couple thousand (dollars)," Levitan said. "All I wanted to do was paint the house -- that was the next adventure. Now I have to fix the house."
Levitan said he noticed red paint left over, along with some pieces of the car, including a fog light.
News4Jax Crime and Safety Analyst Gil Smith said if there is a red car in that neighborhood that you haven't seen in a while, to contact police to check it out.
Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, or you can call Crime Stoppers 866-845-TIPS.
Smith said investigators are most likely treating the crash as a hit-and-run. The same penalties apply even when a driver hits a house.?
