JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Animal Care and Protective Services is asking the community for help Thursday night after seizing nearly 100 dogs from a Westside home on Commonwealth Ave.
Animal Care and Protective Services said that Susan Esdale and Tim Perot lived in the house and were supposedly using it as a rescue shelter advertised as Dogs Deserve Life Rescue on Facebook, but it's unclear if they were properly licensed
"She wanted me to let everyone know that she is a rescue organization and she truly has the best intentions of the dogs in mind," Jen Walter, the ACPS shelter manager said.
City workers, veterans technicians and volunteers were seizing the dogs because the owner did not sign over custody.
The city with evaluate the health of the dogs, some of which were found in two adjacent warehouses.
"Once they arrive back at the shelter they'll all be evaluated medically and depending on how the investigation unfolds is how we will proceed with the distribution of the animals," Walter said.
The city is urgently requesting people adopt or foster dogs currently in the the shelter because it was at capacity before Thursday's seizure.
