Clay County Sheriff's Office closes case as murder-suicide

Lawrence Sigman found on ground in backyard, deputies say

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff's Office has closed a murder-suicide case from May.

Deputies were called to a home on Red Oak Circle East for a domestic battery case on May 7.

While deputies talked to a woman and her daughter, deputies heard a gunshot from the backyard, having shot himself.

Lawrence Sigman, 57, was found on the ground in the backyard. He later died at the hospital.

Deputies went in the house and found Gertrud Sigman, 92, dead in her bed, covered with a blanket. She was in the late stages of Alzheimer's.

The medical examiner found she had been beaten and strangled, and ruled the death as a homicide.
