Police: Woman points pistol at man, 2 employees at McDonald's

Man tells police he saw woman point gun, noticed red dot on his shoulder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was arrested at a McDonald’s in the River City Marketplace Friday after she pointed a gun at three people, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Charles Daniels, 47, was trying to park at the McDonald's when Mary Ulman, 55, started honking behind him, police said. Ulman pulled in next to Daniels as he was getting out of his car to go inside for lunch, and started honking at him and calling him inappropriate names, police said.

Daniels said he tried his best to ignore Ulman.

"She was racial slurs this and that, but my grandfather didn't raise us that way, so I overlooked it," Daniels said.

Authorities said Daniels ignored Ulman and walked in front of her car on his way inside the McDonald's.

Before entering, Daniels told police he noticed Ulman was pointing a gun at him and that there was a red dot on his shoulder.

"As I got ready to walk in, I saw a red beam on my shoulder," Daniels said. "I looked and she had her gun pointed at me."

Ulman then got out of her car and continued pointing the gun at Daniels as he walked through the McDonald’s, police said. Ulman also pointed the gun at two witnesses working the drive-through, police said.

"Am I going to be alright and everybody else? What about everybody else, when she started pointing through the drive-through window?" Daniels asked.

When Daniels was asked what got Ulman upset or if he thought this could've been prevented, he told News4Jax, "No." He said all you can do these days is pray.

"Look beyond the racial divide and pray," Daniels said.

Police arrested Ulman after a traffic stop on Main Street and Sara Drive, where they found the pistol she allegedly used.

Authorities said they drove Ulman back to the McDonald’s, where witnesses identified her.

The manager of the McDonald’s said he reviewed the security surveillance, but it didn’t cover the area where Ulman allegedly pointed her pistol at Daniels and the McDonald’s employees.

Ulman faces aggravated assault charges with intent to commit a felony.
