ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. – A St. Augustine man is still in the hospital Friday after being shot by a St. Johns County sheriff's deputy.
According to police, 53-year-old Cary Lloyd Martin was shot multiple times inside a home on Florida Avenue and A1A Thursday around 9 p.m. after a confrontation with police.

St. Augustine Beach police, along with several St. Johns County deputies, responded to a report of a suicidal man by a woman who police described as his significant other, police said.
Reports said that St. Augustine Beach police officers made contact with Martin, trying to convince him to come outside and talk to police.
"On several occasions they believed the subject was going to exit the house so we could assist him in any way we could. However, when he was exiting the house he was armed with a rifle and they did in fact engage with that individual with gunfire," Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan, with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, said.
Officials said that when Martin did come to the door of the home he was armed with a M1 Garand rifle and started shooting at police.
Sgt. Earl Edenfield III, 39, and 28-year-old Deputy Joshua Butler opened fire on Martin, shooting him multiple times.
Martin was taken by air ambulance to UF Health Jacksonville, where he is in serious condition.
Both officers were placed on paid administrative leave while the case is being investigated by detectives with the major crimes unit and the state attorney's office, which is standard procedure in deputy-involved shootings.
