Elderly man critical after getting struck by car in Fleming Island

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – An 82-year-old man is in critical condition after he was struck after a crash on U.S. 17 in Fleming Island.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a Nissan Frontier driven by Jacob Frazier, 16,  was traveling northbound on US-17 in the left lane. A Toyota Camry driven by Betty Wells, 83, was stopped in the left lane of US-17 northbound.

The Frontier swerved to the right to avoid another stopped vehicle. The Frontier swerved back to the left, colliding with its left front into the right rear of the Camry. Due to the impact between the vehicles, the Camry rotated clockwise and collided with Edmund Wells, 82. Wells was thrown into the southbound lanes.  He was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. 

Troopers said charges are pending in the crash.
