JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation held an open house Wednesday to answer questions about the new First Coast Expressway already under construction.

The expressway will be the first toll road since Duval County voters abolished tolls in 1989.

The four-lane toll road will eventually link Interstate 10 West in Duval County with I-95 in northern St. Johns County. Right now, the first two phases of the road are under construction.

"Right now, segments of the construction are what we call the north project and the south project," explained FDOT's Laurie Sanderson. "The north project stretches from just south of I-10 to just north of Argyle Forest Boulevard. And the south project starts just north of Argyle Forest Boulevard and goes down to Blanding Boulevard. Both of those projects are under construction right now. North project started in September 2013. South project just started this month."

The third phase, which extends into St. Johns County, is still in planning phases. The project is expected to be complete by 2016.
