FHP: Man, 44, dies after crashing into railroad signal box

Delmar Reese has medical emergency before single-car crash, troopers say

A person died Friday when they crashed into a railroad signal box on Philips Hwy. near Old St. Augustine Rd.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died Friday afternoon in a single-car crash on Philips Highway near Old St. Augustine Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said. 

Troopers identified the victim as Delmar Reese, 44, of Jacksonville.

According to FHP, Reese was driving south on Philips Highway just after 4 p.m. when he had a medical emergency and lost consciousness. Troopers said the car then traveled off the roadway and over some train tracks, and struck a metal railroad signal box.

Reese was taken to Baptist South Medical Center, where he died, troopers said.
