Fire at Arlington complex displaces 16 residents

Flames visible in 2nd-floor unit of Cimarron Apartments prompts 2nd alarm

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Flames coming from the second floor of an apartment building on Arlington River Road late Friday morning prompted a two-alarm fire.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue officials said the fire got into the attic and roof before firefighters got a handle on it. One firefighter suffered a minor injury in the fire.

JFRD said families would be displaced. The American Red Cross was on-site assisting 16 people.

The fire is believed to have started in a kitchen and is likely accidental, but the cause was under investigation by the fire marshal.

JFRD spokesman said the second alarm to bring extra equipment and personnel to the fire was precautionary because it was a multiunit building.
