JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis of Florida's 6th District traveled to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to testify about a study that concluded the Pentagon buried evidence pointing to about $125 billion in wasteful spending.
The evidence was buried so Congress wouldn’t say, “you don’t need more money,” The Washington Post reported.
DeSantis, a former Defense Business Board chairman from Jacksonville, went to Washington along with others who created the study.
DeSantis told News4Jax that he thinks there will be interest in reforming the way the Pentagon does business.
“I'm one that says if you can find savings that really (benefit) the war fighter (then let’s do it) because we can divert that to buying things that we need for that -- to (improve) them into improving readiness,” he said. “And that’s something that I think the president is committed to because he obviously wants to support the troops. He wants to have a more powerful military, but he's also been very interested in identifying wasteful projects.”
The Defense Business Board produced the study, identifying $125 billion in administrative waste.
It calls for using that money for troops and weapons -- not for administrative reasons.
