Dryer catches fire at Bradford County Jail

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. – A dryer at the Bradford County Jail caught fire Tuesday, according to the Bradford County Sheriff's Office.

A trustee inmate notified the on duty shift sergeant of the fire shortly before 2 p.m.

The sergeant saw flames from the bottom of the dryer unit and began putting the flames out with a fire extinguisher.

As corrections officers put out the flames, the Starke Fire Department arrived to make sure there was no further danger to the inmates.

The fire was contained in the laundry area and inmates were never evacuated.

The Bradford County Fire Marshal was requested to investigate the cause of the fire.

The jail is in full operation but closed to any outside visitors.
