Family remembers Orange Park woman killed 4 years ago

Jillian Berrios, 27, found shot to death in October 2013

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Family and friends gathered Thursday night to remember an Orange Park woman killed four years ago.

Jillian Berrios, 27, was found shot to death in her car, which was parked at the Park Place apartments, in October 2013. No arrests have been made in the case.

As Friday marks four years since Berrios' death, family and friends said they want to make sure her name isn't forgotten. They gathered around candlelight Thursday evening to remember the mother of two children and share the good times they once had.

"She was the type of friend that would take the shirt off of her back," said Zulma Torres, Berrios' cousin. "She was that type of person."

Torres said she feels detectives have given up on the case.

“I feel like she has been forgotten for them. So it’s hard," she said. "It’s hard because you don’t know where to turn.”

Torres said she just wants justice for her cousin.

“I pray for that person who did this for two reasons: For God to put a conviction in his spirit and his mind to come forward. And to face it because it’s better for him to face it here than on judgment day," Torres said.

For the sake of Berrios' children, Torres said, she hopes someone will come forward.

Torres also told News4Jax that Berrios’ daughter said she wants to be a police officer when she grows up so she can find her mother’s killer.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 904-264-6512.
