YULEE, Fla. – A Nassau County deputy has been removed from patrol and placed on desk duty pending the outcome of an investigation into possible abuse of his daughter, Sheriff Bill Leeper said.
The investigation began after the Department of Children and Families was made aware of a video posted on social media that was made by Deputy Troy Gill’s son, who is believed to be 10-12 years old.
It’s uncertain who posted the video, which shows Gill disciplining the girl with a belt.
DCF released a statement about the case:
The Department of Children and Families is currently investigating this case. We have just recently been made aware of the video, and we are concerned about its contents.
The first priority of our agency is to ensure child safety, and we are currently working to do that. We are gathering additional information at this time.
Due to the state confidentiality laws, we are unable to disclose further details.
Gill's wife, Rachel, has also been interviewed by DCF personnel and is suspended from her job as a Baker County Sheriff's Office corrections officer while the investigation takes its course.
Leeper said that when DCF is done with its investigation, Gill will be investigated by the Nassau County Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs Unit.
