ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A man died Saturday when he was thrown from his motorcycle in a crash on U.S. Highway 1, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
David Piper, 56, of St. Augustine, was driving southbound when 70-year-old Kitty Cooper pulled out in front of him while trying to turn onto Watson Road. Piper didn’t have enough time to avoid Cooper’s car and crashed into her passenger-side door, throwing him from his motorcycle.

Piper died from his injuries, officials said.
Cooper was stopped at a traffic light in the northbound lane of U.S. 1 at Watson Road when the light turned green for both directions of traffic. She told officers that she thought she saw a green arrow and turned left onto Watson Road but didn’t see Piper’s motorcycle.
Officials said Piper was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
