Former WJKS-TV news anchor dies at 80

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bert Roselle, the face of WJKS-TV news in the 1970s and 1980s, has died at age 80.

Roselle was a graduate of Jacksonville University who got his start in broadcasting in 1959 doing news and weather at WFGA-TV -- the predecessor of WTLV, Channel 12.  He went on to work for WSB in Atlanta, WCAU in Philadelphia and KHOU in Houston before returning to Jacksonville in 1972 as news director of WJKS, the city's ABC affiliate at the time.

Roselle continued to co-anchor the evening newscasts through the mid-80s as the station transitioned to NBC then back to ABC.  After retiring from broadcasting he obtained a degree in counseling and worked with Gateway Community Services for several years.

Roselle's wife, Sarah, died last July.  He is survived by his daughter and wife's two daughters.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 North Main Street.
