Ware County schools to open 2 hours late Thursday

Schools cut back hours, open shelter due to impending storms

WAYCROSS, Ga. – All Ware County schools and the district's central office will be on a two-hour delayed schedule Thursday morning due to inclement weather expected overnight.

According to the Emergency Management, inclement weather in the area is predicted to intensify beyond initial forecasts, with peak intensity from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday. All buses will run two hours later than normal, and the first bell of the day will ring two hours later than normal at each school. As of now, all schools will dismiss at the regularly scheduled time.

Waycross Middle School, located at 700 Central Avenue, opened at 6 p.m. Wednesday as a care center for any individual needing safe shelter during the storm. Please listen to alerts and take necessary precautions during this weather event.

All Ware County schools dismissed early Wednesday due to the threat of severe weather. 

In January, numerous roads became troublesome or impassable after heavy rain and officials are concerned that the same situation could arise Wednesday.
