Lake City gynecologist charged with fraud

Dr. Chandler Mohan also accused of prescribing unnecessary drugs to pregnant women

LAKE CITY, Fla. – A local obstetrics and gynecology physician was arrested Tuesday and charged with defrauding the Florida Medicaid program and prescribing medically unnecessary drugs to pregnant women, according to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi's office.

Dr. Chandler V. Mohan, 46, owner of Emory Medical Corporation, was doing business at the Women's Center of Florida. He performed and submitted claims for medically unnecessary procedures and billed for services not rendered, according to Bondi's office.

Mohan faces 11 counts of Medicaid provider fraud of $10,000 or less, a third degree felony, and six counts of delivery of a controlled substance, a second degree felony.

If convicted, Mohan faces up to 145 years in prison, more than $136,000 in fines and restitution.

Bondi's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigated the case and the Lake City Police Department helped with the arrest.
