DIXIE COUNTY, Fla. – Sheriff's deputies from Alachua and Seminole counties assisted the Dixie County Sheriff's Office early Monday morning after a man fired shots at authorities, then barricaded himself inside his Old Town home.

Authorities said when deputies arrived at a home along N.E. U.S. Highway 349 to investigate a family disturbance about 2 a.m., 60-year-old Charles Randall "Randy" Miller fired shots at them, then retreated back into his home.

According to Dixie County, Miller voluntarily surrendered, unarmed, to members of the Alachua County SWAT Team about 8:10 a.m.  Charges against him were not known. 

Several deputies from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, who were in the area assisting with storm damage after the recent hurricane, assisted in the incident.

In addition to the SWAT team, Alachua County also sent its Negotiations Response Team, Bomb Team and it's communications trailer to provide additional services and equipment.
