JSO said at around 5:30 a.m., officers responded to the 3600 block of St. Johns Bluff Road South and found a man in his 40s with a single gunshot to his neck. He was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the man was working at the gas station when the suspect walked in, pointed a gun at him and “made a demand.” JSO said he shot the clerk and fled the area on foot.

The suspect is described as a 5′6″ to 5′9″ man wearing all black with a mask and a backpack with white shoes.

According to a JSO crime map, the St. Johns Bluff gas station only showed one stolen property offense in the past year, but no reported crime incidents in the last two years.

A resident at a nearby apartment who would frequent the convenience store knew the clerk and his family.

“I stop by and holla at ‘em and get a cold drink or something, all the time,” the resident said. ”Their daughter was nice, their son was nice, the wife - all of them was very nice."

This is not the same gas station near the Avenues Mall where a man was fatally shot in the head on Wednesday night.

A Circle K representative reached out to News4JAX to clarify this is no longer a Circle K gas station and it was sold in 2024.
