ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – All lanes of Interstate 95 near mile marker 321 reopened on Wednesday after the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office took an individual into custody, following an investigation that temporarily closed all lanes.

The sheriff’s office said it was responding to a mental health-related incident with an armed subject that closed lanes, just south of the International Golf Parkway exit, around 2 p.m.

Around 4 p.m., the SJSO said someone was taken into custody for evaluation without incident and confirmed that there was no danger to the public.

Traffic was being diverted at International Golf Parkway and I-95, and State Road 16 and I-95.

John Medaglia and his family were on their way to Walt Disney World from South Carolina when he witnessed the St. Johns County investigation that shut down all lanes on Interstate 95.

“It was a little unnerving,” he told News4JAX. “I saw cop cars and everything, and the cops were sitting outside of their cars on the highway. There were snipers set up with tripods.”
