JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a person was fatally shot near Parrish Cemetery Road and Normandy Boulevard on the Westside on Thursday morning.
JSO said about 9:11 a.m., officers responded to an unresponsive person and the call was upgraded to a person shot.
When first responders arrived, they found a person with a gunshot wound in the upper chest area.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said the man died at the scene.
Officials said based on their early investigation, neighbors said they heard a single gunshot around 9 a.m. The property owner was walking the area and found the dead person.
JSO said while the victim has not been officially identified, he is believed to be a local homeless man in his late 40s to early 50s who frequents the area.
The investigation is ongoing.
