A 34-year-old Gainesville woman was driving a sedan northeast in the left lane when a 50-year-old St. Augustine man attempted to cross the roadway directly in front of the car, FHP said. The pedestrian failed to yield the right of way and was struck by the front of the vehicle, troopers said.
FHP said the roadway was not lighted at the time of the crash and the pedestrian was not wearing reflective or high-visibility clothing, reducing visibility to approaching traffic.
The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt, troopers said. The pedestrian died at the scene.
