JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –
As police continue to investigate a crash that killed a man and woman early Sunday morning in Northwest Jacksonville, people who knew the couple are grieving their loss.
Traffic homicide detectives said Selina Rivers-Tobler, 41, and Anthony Jacobs, 57, were killed when they were struck by a car just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of New Kings Road and Finch Avenue.
Friends said the two were leaving the LaVilla Sports Club when they were hit as they walked across the road.
"From what I'm hearing, they made it to their car and somebody ... hit them," local DJ Anthony Lenton said.
Jacobs, who friends knew as AJ, owned a car wash in the parking lot of Emmanuel Food Store on Normandy Boulevard at Lane Avenue. The store's owner said he was a hard worker and had a positive impact on everyone he met.
"I know his whole family," Sam Abay said. "(His uncle) called and I cried. I cried, I'm telling you."
The two people who were in the car that struck the couple were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their names and conditions were not released.
