According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News4Jax, the investigation began when Nassau County deputies were responding to calls about a reckless driver on Lem Turner and at U.S. Highway 1 in Callahan.

A deputy said when he arrived on scene, he was flagged down by a driver who said, “He’s running that way,” while pointing toward the Thompson Mall.

The deputy wrote in the report that he spotted Theberge running toward Booth Street, wearing nothing but underwear.

According to the affidavit, Theberge led the deputy on a foot pursuit to a home on Booth Street. The deputy said he heard glass being broken at the back of the home, where he found Theberge in a breezeway breaking the glass to the rear door. The deputy quickly took Theberge into custody.

During the course of their investigation at the scene of the crash, deputies spoke to numerous witnesses who said after Theberge crashed the car, he attempted to carjack two people and then entered another vehicle, where he stole a flashlight. According to investigators, Theberge used the stolen flashlight to break the glass door of the home where he was captured.

Detectives also learned the car Theberge crashed was reported stolen out of St. Johns County.

Theberge was transported to Nassau Baptist Hospital because he was showing signs of excited delirium and deputies suspected he was under the influence of narcotics.

When detectives spoke to Theberge, he confessed to carjacking three other people in St. Johns and Duval Counties, according to the affidavit.

Theberge is charged with carjacking, strong arm robbery, resisting arrest, theft, burglary of a dwelling, auto burglary and driving without a license.

According to Nassau County investigators, charges in other counties are pending.

As of Wednesday, Theberge remained locked up on a $206,000 bond.

It's unknown whether he was wearing boxers or briefs at the time.
