Naturalization ceremony welcomes 33 new citizens

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Thirty-three people took the oath of allegiance, becoming U.S. citizens, at a special naturalization ceremony Tuesday morning in St. Augustine.

The ceremony began at 9:30 a.m. at the Castillo de San Marcos. It was was held at the national monument to celebrate the National Park Service's 100-year milestone.

The newly naturalized citizens originate from 22 different countries.

Last year, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalized around 730,000 people nationwide, and 99,000 of those people were in Florida.
