Police: Body found in dumpster ruled homicide

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office investigates death on Eastside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man found dead inside a dumpster that caught fire at an Eastside warehouse early Monday morning was killed, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Police are investigating after firefighters put out the dumpster fire on Clark Street and found the body of a man whose name has not been released.

Police said Tuesday that doctors were able to determine the man had a medical device implanted in his back, along his spinal column. His death was ruled a homicide.

Firefighters were called just before 3:45 a.m. Monday. After finding a body, they called police.

Initially, the gender and race of the body were unidentifiable.

Investigators are looking at overnight surveillance footage and are awaiting the state fire marshal to find out exactly how the fire started.
