TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill Friday that provides additional options for veterans and service members to earn college credit, and also helps Purple Heart recipients and other distinguished military members receive tuition waivers.
Scott also signed a separate bill to allow active-duty military members serving in the United States and abroad to pay in-state tuition and fees.

“As a Navy Veteran myself, I am proud today to sign these important measures into law to support Florida’s brave military members and veterans," Scott said in a news release. "By making it easier for military men and women to earn college degrees, we are giving more of our nation’s heroes the opportunity to better themselves while showing gratitude for the sacrifices they have made."
Scott acknowledged the efforts of Senate President Pro Tempore Garrett Richter, Sen. Tom Lee, Rep. Bryan Avila, Rep. Jake Raburn, and Rep. Chris Sprowls in pushing the legislation through.
“We applaud Gov. Scott for signing these important measures into law today," Maj. Gen. Michael Calhoun said. "There is no doubt that Florida stands by the members of our military and their families during their service and as they transition to civilian life. These new laws open more educational opportunities for our service members so they can pursue their dreams in Florida.”
