JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dozens of middle school kids finished up a weeklong robotics camp Friday at Frank H. Peterson Academy, learning about technology and engineering, while having fun.
"It seemed like it would be super hard, but it actually turned out to be easy, but a little complicated," said camper Lily Parrish. "You just had to do a lot of math."

One of the first lessons Lily learned was how to calculate the circumference of the wheels of the robots.
"I didn't know that I would like this, but once we started, we got to do competitions and put noises on the robots," she said. "I just thought it was really fun."
The camp showcases the all-important science, technology, engineering and math concepts and robotics and kicks off a new robotics club at the school. These fields are often combined into the acronym STEM.
"We hope that some of these students will decide to choose Frank H. Peterson as a choice," said Jessica Parrish, vice principal of Peterson Academy.
The hands-on, minds-on exercises and challenges have wrapped up, but Parrish is hoping it becomes and annual camp for kids.
