Mom, teen found dead in Westside home

JSO says deaths are suspicious in nature

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are trying to find out how a woman and her teenage daughter died, after their bodies were found Sunday inside a home off Blanding Boulevard.

The bodies were discovered shortly before noon Sunday by a third person who lives at the house on Shady Pines Street. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is questioning that person, but authorities have not called him a suspect and said they do not have a suspect at this time.

Police have not released identities of the victims pending the notification of next of kin. Police was waiting for the medical examiner's investigation before releasing a cause of death, but the incident report called it a shooting investigation, which confirms what neighbors told News4Jax.

Angela Lock who lives in the neighborhood says it is usually quiet and safe.

"I know all my neighbors. I'm pretty close to them. This is out of the ordinary," said Lock.

Sgt. Dan Janson with JSO says anytime there's a suspicious death in a residential neighborhood it raises concerns.

"Anytime you have a homicide inside a home in a residential neighborhood such as this everybody has a concern about what's going on in their neighborhood," said Janson. "At this point, I don't know if there's a mad gunman on the loose. I don't think there is. I don't know that definitively. Until we really get inside and start looking at the evidence, get down to the hardcore part."

Bill Mosher is another concerned neighbor who said this is unsettling.

"It's makes you not want to go out at night. Stay home. That's for sure. Not that we go out all the time, but it makes you not want to go anymore," said Mosher.

The crime scene unit continued their investigation in the Duclay Forest neighborhood through Monday morning.

JSO is looking into two possibilities: a murder-suicide or a double murder. The investigation is still underway and News4Jax hopes to learn new information at some Monday afternoon.

This article will be updated as new information is released by the Sheriff's Office.
