The team had asked fans to submit names for the new mascot, and five finalist names were selected: Jimbo, Mayport, Rocky, Scampi and Shelley.

Fans were then able to vote for their favorite name.

The winning name, Scampi, was announced as the mascot made its official debut opening night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The new shrimp mascot will partner with Southpaw, the veteran mascot that represented the team under its previous name, the Jacksonville Suns.

Scampi is not to be confused with Sgt. Scampi, who is part of the group K-9s For Warriors and serves as the team's bat dog for a designated half inning at each Friday’s home game during the 2017 season.
