ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A St. Augustine man died and another was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when the driver of a Toyota CRV going north on U.S. 1 lost control. The SUV crossed the median into the southbound lanes and struck a Toyota Corolla and a second vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
It happened about 1:45 p.m. on U.S. 1 near Calinas Boulevard, just north of International Golf Parkway.

The 55-year-old driver of the Corolla, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. The driver of the CRV, Alexa Frisbey, 18, of St. Augustine, was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries.
A Ford Explorer driven by William Barnwell Jr., 44, of St. Augustine, could not avoid striking the SUV in his path. He was not injured.
All southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were closed at State Road 210 and one northbound lane was closed south of Calinas while the accident was investigated and cleared.
