JSO said the woman was driving a Mercedes E350 northbound on the bridge in the outside lane, while the man was driving a Mercury Grand Marquis southbound on the bridge.

Officials said the Grand Marquis sideswiped the metal guard railing on the west side of the bridge, near the top of the span, then swerved across all lanes and hit the metal guard rail on the east side of the bridge.

JSO said the Grand Marquis, which was now in the oncoming lanes, kept going and ran head-on into the Mercedes.

Both drivers were taken to a hospital where the Grand Marquis driver died, and the Mercedes driver is in stable condition with severe injuries, JSO said.

This is the 60th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2026.
