JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If it's going to be gray and feel like freezing, it might as well snow. And it did, with flurries sighted from Ponte Vedra Beach north into coastal Georgia Thursday.
After bottoming out in the upper 20s overnight, most counties in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia struggled to get into the 40s on Thursday before plunging to near freezing again by dawn on Friday.
Viewers in Arlington, near the Avenues Mall, on Jacksonville's Westside, at Ponte Vedra Beach, in Yulee and Kingsland, St. Marys and St. Simons Island, Ga. have called or emailed about seeing flurries. Meteorologist Richard Nunn said with temperature aloft at or below freezing, it is certainly cold enough for frozen precipitation, but warm enough that nothing will stick to the ground.

While the freeze warning has ended for the day, a wind chill advisory continues for conditions that will keep afternoon high temperatures will barely make it out of the 30s and feel barely above freezing. A wind advisory along the coast and gale warnings over the coastal waters also expired by midday.
Beyond the cold blast of wind and cold temperatures, our winds will turn more onshore during the day on Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for Thursday night/Friday morning, but only for inland Georgia counties.
Small craft advisory conditions will be possible over the coastal waters on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
An elevated risk of rip currents will continue through the period.
