Teenager mistaken for deer shot, killed in Glynn County

Police say Bobby Lane accidentally shot, died at hospital

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – A 17-year-old died Saturday after he was shot while hunting, according to the Glynn County Police Department.

Bobby Lane died after he was accidentally shot in a wooded area near 578 Myers Hill Road, more than two miles west of Interstate 95, police said.

Police said Lane was mistaken for a deer and shot by a hunting partner, who helped carry the injured man to a Friendly Express store on Highway 82 to get help. Lane was taken to a hospital, where he died.

"He was a very avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors," Lane's cousin, Michael Rawling, wrote on a GoFundMe page to set up help pay funeral expenses for Lane.

The shooting will be investigated by the Georgia Department of National Resources.

It's currently archery season and the firearm season doesn't start until Oct. 19. It's unclear if the friend who accidentally shot Lane will face any charges.
