According to FHP, a 2010 International retired school bus was headed west on SR 40 and a 2001 Ford Ranger was headed east when the pickup crossed the middle lane and sideswiped the bus, sending the bus careening off the roadway.
It crashed through a fence and hit a tree before it overturned.
More than 30 ambulances responded to the scene and about 40 people were taken to hospitals to be treated for injuries, some that were serious.
The driver of the truck suffered serious injuries.
Marion County Sheriff Billy Wood said those on the bus were migrant workers and had proper documentation.
“They are hard-working individuals,” Wood said.
