3 'Shredder Days' to be held this week

Channel 4 partners with Cintas, Winn-Dixie to offer 'Shredder Days' on Monday, Friday, Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The always-popular Channel 4 Shredder Day is growing bigger and better.

Partnering with Cintas Document Management, Winn-Dixie and Family Foundations, free shredding will be available on three days this week -- each in a different part of town.

On Monday, 30,000 pounds of material was processed after more than 600 cars rode through.

It is part of Jacksonville's Third Annual Wise Money Week.

  • Monday - noon to 4 p.m. - Winn-Dixie #191 -- 5207 Normandy Blvd., near Cassat Avenue
  • Friday - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m -Winn-Dixie #72 -- 7534 Beach Blvd. at Parental Home Road
  • Saturday - 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Winn-Dixie #141 -- 11701 San Jose Blvd., near Loretto Road

"What we did this year was spread it out to three different locations on three different days, so if people are busy today, please let them know they can come Friday and they can come Saturday," said Martha Cox, vice president of Family Foundations.

Consumers and businesses are invited to protect their identities by shredding unwanted personal, financial or confidential documents.

Karen Shegogue said her identity was stolen three times.

"I had to change my account and they got all of my information," said Shegogue. "You can take it to UPS, but no, I said 'I'm taking it to Channel 4.' That's where I'm going to go because, you know, you can't trust everyone."

During the event, anyone can bring their documents in and have them shredded by an on-site, certified Cintas employee. Due to expected demand, each person in line can only have five boxes of material to shred, although they are welcome to get in line again if they have more.

From drop-off to destruction, all documents will be constantly monitored and protected.

"I loved it downtown, but this is so convenient," said Karen Shegogue. "This is the best thing you could have done. Line? Whatever -- I don't mind. It's worth every minute of it."

The first 10,000 people will receive a free financial education kit including "Your Journey to Financial Health."

"We have classes on the basics of budgeting how to protect your identity, investment strategies. Really something for everyone," Cox said.

Those dropping off documents to be shredded should be in line at least 30 minutes prior to the end time of the event.
