JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – People in Jacksonville have come together to remember the victims and survivors of the mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue.
Many gathered on the University of North Florida campus Sunday evening to honor the lives of 11 people gunned down at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.
"To express grief over the tragic loss of life in Pittsburgh. To give each other strength during this tragic time and to recommit ourselves to responding to hate, responding to darkness with light and positivity," said student Rabbi Shmuli Novack about why the vigil was being held.
Novack organized the service for those who wanted to pay their respects. That includes a couple originally from the area where the shooting happened in Pittsburgh.
"Just because I do something differently than you doesn't make me an evil or bad person," Edward Feldman said.
Organizers have created this website where people can honor the memories of the victims by doing a good deed.
A vigil will also be held Monday evening at the Temple Synagogue on San Jose Boulevard. People of all faiths are welcome at the inter-faith vigil. The synagogue's message is simple: it's all about solidarity.
Security will be on hand as the vigil begins at 7 p.m. at 8727 San Jose Blvd.
