SAN MARCO, Fla. – San Marco’s long-standing tradition of celebrating art after Thanksgiving continued with the 26th annual Art Festival at Balis Park. The vibrant community event highlights local artists and their diverse talents while supporting businesses and fostering connections.
John Woods, a festival attendee, expressed admiration for the work of one artist, saying, “This is one of the most beautiful prints that I have run across in the last year to two years. The work of this print is beyond expectations.” He proudly displayed a painting of a distillery, which he purchased for his son, showcasing the lasting impact of the artists’ work.

Organizer Rula Carr emphasized the festival’s importance, describing it as a place where “people can find amazing art, local art, and just be a part of what we have here. It is a community event.”
Carr, who also owns The Vault at 1940 Art Gallery, curates works from over 50 artists and brings that same passion for promoting creativity to this annual gathering.
The festival featured an eclectic array of artwork, including paintings, photography, sculptures, and culinary creations. Artists ranged from seasoned professionals to first-timers like Mark Durham, who brought a variety of unique pieces.
“I have prints of people, famous celebrities, and things like that. The main thing that I have here is dog art, custom portraits, and my one-of-a-kind sculpture painting pieces,” Durham shared.
John Woods praised the event’s ability to spotlight local talent, stating, “We have fantastic artists throughout the area. Events like this spread the word that we have an art community.”
Carr echoed this sentiment, adding, “It gives people the idea and the comfort that once a year, they know that they come to San Marco to Balis Park and contribute to the community.”
The San Marco Art Festival offers more than just a showcase of talent—it serves as a reminder of the value of shopping locally and supporting neighbors, friends, and family.
As it continues on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., attendees have another chance to explore and celebrate the rich artistry that defines the Jacksonville area.
