AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – For one lucky fisherman, it was an unforgettable day. It’s not every day you reel in a Great White Shark at the beach, and that’s exactly what happened to Alberto Vanegas.
Vanegas says what started as a normal Tuesday at his favorite spot on Amelia Island turned into a monumental catch.

Venegas, a U.S. Navy veteran, posted photos of the Great White on his Facebook page.
“I am honored and blessed to have caught the first Great White Shark that was caught from the beach on the east coast of Florida.”
The shark was safely released back into the ocean.
“Thank you for all of the love and support. I am so excited and will continue to honor land-based shark fishing and conservation of these magnificent animals.”
Great Whites a rare sight in Florida, but not unheard off.
