JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The biggest name in the online pre-paid coupon business is investigating a mix-up that left over 110 customers of a chain of Jacksonville barbeque restaurants frustrated.
Katy Burns bought a $15 Goupon deal for $30 worth of food at MoJo Bar-b-que, but it's a deal to Mojo's isn't honoring.
"I use Groupon all the time," Burns said. "I saw the MoJo's deal -- I love MoJo's -- went ahead and bought two because I knew I would use them."
But when Burns took the coupon to the Mojo on Beach Boulevard, "He sighed and said 'I'm so sorry. We have nothing to do with this Groupon. We never authorized Groupon to put this ad on Groupon.'"
The server told Burns they would have to pay the normal price for the meal.
"We did stay, but it was a bummer, you know, because that was the only reason we went their that day, because we had the Groupon," she said.
The managers at MoJo confirmed to Channel 4 they don't have a deal with Groupon.
"MoJo is just not accepting the deals right now," said Justin Seaman. "We're not too sure where it came from, so hopefully they will get to the bottom of it soon."
Burns went to her bank and explained what happened and she currently has the money back in her account while the bank works with Groupon for a refund.
Groupon's corporate office said its customer service has received other reports that this is going on and they are investigating. They say anyone who bought the MoJo Groupon can get a refund.
"It does make me kind of leery about it," Burns said, although she doesn't plan to stop using Groupon.
The Better Business Bureau graded Groupon with an A, with a total of 377 total complaints in the last three years.
Although Burns got her money back, she said she should have known something was wrong when she saw the daily offer sold out before 10 a.m. that day.
