Economic impact of Florida-Georgia game always significant

City of Jacksonville has brought in thousands of visitors in previous years

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The economic impact of the Florida-Georgia game is always significant.

In previous years, the city of Jacksonville has brought in thousands of visitors, bringing the economic impact to $35 million in 2015.

Last year, the game's estimated economic impact was close to $70 million.

It's a game that brings out hundreds of thousands of people in Jacksonville. For more than 80 consecutive years, Jacksonville has hosted the Florida-Georgia game.

Each year, economic impact shows the game is a huge win for the city.

"When was the Landing busy ever? Maybe twice a year? So it helps Jacksonville for sure," Josh Schall said.

In 2015, Jacksonville received a total of 130,000 visitors for the Florida-Georgia game.

In previous years, Mayor Lenny Curry has called the event "beneficial in making Jacksonville a leading destination for major events."

"I went to the University of Alabama. We brought in $184 million last year with football in general," Connor Rodman said. "I think this place, just for the game this year, literally brought in $10 million easy. There's no doubt in my mind that this happened."

Typically the city reveals the exact numbers for economic impact around December.
