TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A House Republican who previously served on the Duval County School Board proposed a constitutional amendment Monday that would place term limits on school board members across the state.
The proposal (HJR 1031), filed by Rep. Jason Fischer, R-Jacksonville, comes as the state Constitution Revision Commission also considers placing a school-board term limit proposal on the November 2018 ballot.

Both proposals, which would need voter approval, would limit school board members to two four-year terms.
Fischer's proposal is identical to a proposal (SJR 194) that Sen. Greg Steube, R-Sarasota, filed in August.
The Fischer and Steube proposals are filed for the 2018 legislative session, which starts Jan. 9.
The 37-member Constitution Revision Commission, which meets every 20 years, has the authority to place proposed amendments directly on the 2018 ballot. It is considering dozens of proposals.
